Job Overview

The Food Safety and Quality Manager provides technical direction, guidance, and support to the Quality Assurance supervisors, Food Safety Specialist, QA Coordinator and staff of technicians at facilities.  This position is responsible to ensure we have controls and procedures in place to ensure the manufacture of safe, quality products that meet customer, food regulatory and, CTI requirements.  This role has direct communication with customers including but not limited to; audits, product cuttings, complaints, new products and specification changes.  This position is the key contact for regulatory personnel for day to day business.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, maintain or improve proactive quality and food safety systems, assessing risk to prevent failures and mitigate risk to the consumer and brand.
  2. Sustain relationship with suppliers to ensure quality standards for both product components and finished products.
  3. Food Safety and Quality system information management: Ensures team compiles, interprets, and communicates the conformance to standards for product components and finished products to all customers utilizing measurement metrics
  4. Identifies product and process improvement opportunities, targeting value added activities.
  5. Provides direction and knowledge for creating, implementing and maintenance of HACCP and Food Safety Plans
  6. Supervises the development and incorporation of proper product and process measurement metrics using Intelex, Red Zone and other methods of technology for tracking/trending
  7. Provides strategic perspective for product and process quality through Food Safety systems, GFSI compliance, Sanitation/SSOP programs including Environmental monitoring.
  8. Supports the Company in managing emerging food safety, food fraud or quality risks.
  9. Delivers up-to-date knowledge of technology and systems for tracking, maintaining and improving quality and food safety.
  10. Coordinates and manages GFSI and third-party audits and all associated SOPs
  11. Oversees regulatory compliance for labeling submissions (generic and sketch), plant certifications and certificates of Free Sale as required by USDA, FDA, State Health Department and exporters.
  12. Supports Supplier Approval program.
  13. Assists and supports plant LT through effective communication, meeting attendance and daily interactions.
  14. Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a related discipline (Food Science, Animal Science, Biological Sciences, etc.) is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a related Food Processing environment
  • Minimum 5+ years management experience of multi shift FSQ department
  • Complete familiarity with Regulatory requirements (UDSA-FSIS and FDA)
  • Strong leadership experience and proven skills evaluating and implementing strategies that improve overall quality and profitability.
  • Able to develop and implement FSQ policies, programs and procedures.
  • Able to prioritize high level assignments and work independently.
  • Able to manage employees and provide strong leadership and mentorship, creating the next level of leadership
  • Possess strong analytical skills including problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote, follow and contribute to CTI’s mission statement and deliverables.
  • HACCP and PCQI certified.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to team while achieving desired results.
  • Accomplished in presenting information/ideas concisely, accurately and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Capable of analyzing and documenting simple and/or complex business processes.
  • Skilled in communication with a focus on listening and influencing skills.
  • Priority management of tasks while achieving desired results
  • Capacity to exercise appropriate judgment in decision-making and problem solving
  • Effectively communicate with multi-levels – plant team members to BOD.
