Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work Requirements
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot temperature, pressure, and flow devices—both field indicators and transmitters to PLCs.
- Program PLC logic for process changes and continuous improvements.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical distribution and protection systems up to 480VAC.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including CDs, P&IDs, and logic diagrams.
- Prioritize and execute work according to:
- Emergency corrective maintenance and on-call responses
- Capital and maintenance projects
- Preventive/predictive maintenance audits
- Routine corrective maintenance - Provide practical, actionable solutions for operations and control issues.
- Scope, estimate, and execute small capital and maintenance projects in coordination with the Maintenance Manager, Project Director, and Operations team.
- Oversee contractors on site to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Actively participate in company committees and task forces, including Safety and Audit Committees.
- Attend and contribute to project planning and development meetings.
- Represent the Maintenance Manager when required, particularly regarding processing and control matters.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies; conduct field trials to assess effectiveness.
- Assist in the strategic planning and implementation of process control improvements.
- Develop and manage the site calibration system.
- Train technicians to meet operational and company goals.
Automation and Facility Responsibilities
- Install, program, calibrate, maintain, and repair automation equipment.
- Coordinate and manage maintenance vendors and activities locally.
- Act as the point of contact for maintenance-related communications involving the Automation team.
- Understand the facility’s processes, equipment, and design to support the Asset team effectively.
- Maintain compliance with design and maintenance schedules.
- Track and report maintenance costs accurately.
- Provide cost estimates for automation and maintenance projects.
- Ensure complete and centralized documentation for all automation projects.
- Support facility automation during outages.
- Complete all assigned work within scheduled timeframes and ensure no overdue work orders.
- Analyze facility issues and contribute insights into new technologies.
- Maintain clean and organized PLC panels and automation systems, including proper program and wiring management.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; equivalent experience (minimum 5 years) accepted.
- Technical training in trades, project planning, or project management.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in PLC programming: Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function block
- Experienced with Allen Bradley software: 500, 5000, and FactoryTalk.
- Familiar with Allen Bradley hardware: SLC500, CompactLogix, ControlLogix, PanelView, and Kinetix Servo Drives.
- Knowledge of network protocols: RIO, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and Ethernet/IP.
- Experience with Variable Speed Drives and low/medium voltage drive systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for automation systems, including Delta Motion and SPOC.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools: oscilloscope, function generators, radio service monitors, etc.
- Understanding of 24VDC circuits, electronics, and pneumatic instrumentation.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and calibration documents.
- Capable of performing preventative maintenance on end devices (temperature, pressure, level).
Computer & Analytical Skills
- Proficient in standard office and industrial software.
- Able to generate accurate quotes and reports for automation projects.
