Job Overview

A critical position within the maintenance department, the role of the Maintenance Planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays. This is to be achieved by directing and scheduling manpower, parts and material, and equipment access.

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager and maintaining liaison between Production and Maintenance, the planner is responsible for leading the scheduling and coordination of all planned maintenance work performed on the plant site. Also responsible for maintenance of records and files essential to meaningful analysis and reporting of maintenance related matter.

Responsibilities

Serve as the principal contact and liaison person between Maintenance and Production and other supported departments.

Direct and coordinate all plannable maintenance activity, what is to be accomplished, and estimate how many labor hours will be required based on maintenance knowledge and experience

Maintain equipment records:

Add (and Inactive) equipment records to as equipment is installed or de-installed

Maintain equipment attributes, such as ABC, type, functional location to support repair analysis.

Maintain equipment catalog profiles to drive part failure data collection on notifications.

Conduct critical spare parts assessments for all assets and initiate stocking of those critical spares

Utilize eMaintenance records and data to help facilitate capital planning.

Setup and maintain all predictive and preventative maintenance plans in CMMS to maximize equipment reliability:

Determine the most effective method/tool to conduct preventative and predictive maintenance checks based on equipment critically.

Setup PM plan in CMMS for each piece of equipment, including frequency, mechanic tasks, parts needs, tools needed, safety procedures.

Generate PM work orders in CMMS, from the PM plans for the next 14-28 days.

Monitor and report if PM work is being completed to maintain equipment reliability and comply with regulations and audits.

Release and Schedule PM work orders to maintenance crews.

Seek input from maintenance supervisors to continually improve and adjust PM plans based on equipment and part performance/failure.

Monitor and analyze part failure data (along with supervisors and maintenance manager) to detect trends (good or bad).

Plan and Schedule Corrective work to maximize crew utilization and effectiveness

Reviews work request, collaborates with requestor, and creates the Work Order

Plans the work, including accurate estimated labor by craft (Mech, Elect, Refrigeration), and special equipment or permits needed.

Identifies and reserves parts (or creates purchase requisitions) for parts and services.

Prepares job plans and work order packets for mechanic

Maintains a task list library for reuse.

Scheduling

Interfaces with operations to validate work priority and equipment availability

Leads Maintenance Supervisors in building out their weekly staffing schedules

Reviews Planned Backlog of work that is ready to execute

Selects work from backlog and schedules the work to crews (while minimizing scheduled overtime).

Leads weekly maintenance scheduling meeting.

Prepares weekly metrics

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in the planning, development, and implementation of Maintenance Planning and Scheduling systems within a manufacturing facility

Mechanical/Electrical background necessary

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience with willingness to learn proven maintenance reliability concepts

Certified Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is preferred.

Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma

Strong leadership and an ability to communicate urgency around maintenance items

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Intermediate or better skills in Microsoft Office required.

Strong decision making and organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to be proactive and self-motivated.

Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills

Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive results through others.
